If you like 3e you'll almost certainly like 4e even more (plus the core books are pretty pretty full-colour hardbacks). The rules are mostly the same, and there have been no huge drastic changes in direction, but the list of Advantages and Disadvantages is a lot more coherent and well balanced, the stats are better priced, the skill-list has been somewhat rationalised, the combat rules have been heavily stream-lined, the firearms rules are simply better, etc. That said, excellent as 3rd Edition is 4th Edition is better. Furthermore the two editions are remarkably similar so converting between the two isn't too hard. a good choice for the gamer on a tight budget. In fact it's without a doubt my second-favourite RPG system of all time - my favourite being GURPS 4th Editionģrd Edition books, where they are available, are these days often quite cheap, which makes 3rd Ed. GURPS 3rd Edition is still as playable as it ever was.
